Sudanese authorities announced yesterday that the death toll from the ongoing cholera epidemic has risen to 315, an increase from 252. Additionally, fatalities caused by severe floods and heavy rains have now reached 225, up from 212.

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of registered cholera cases has surged to 9,533 since the outbreak was declared on August 12. Floods triggered by heavy rains have also injured at least 889 people since June, affecting a total of 345,204 individuals from 73,229 families.

The ministry reported significant destruction to homes, with 35,794 houses completely destroyed and another 40,781 partially damaged by the floods.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) revealed that around 6,000 people have been displaced within the last week alone, raising the total number of displaced individuals due to floods and rains to more than 178,000. Sudan experiences annual rainfall from June to October, often leading to devastating flooding.
