Sudan Dash South Africa’s 2022 AFCON Hopes

The Falcons of Jediane will be back to Africa’s biggest football showpiece ten years after their last appearance, as they overcame South Africa in their last group game for the AFCON qualifiers.

Sudan sat on nine one point before Sunday’s game, one point behind Bafana Bafana. The game lived up to its billing as both sides contested hotly for the group’s second ticket after Ghana sealed their place.

The Sudanese dashed the hearts of South Africans as they ran out 2-0 victors.

Champions of Africa in 1996, South Africa will miss the 24-team African Cup of Nations with citizens already calling for a disbandment of the squad.

There are six AFCON slots left to be taken with final day theatrics expected in clashes involving Sierra Leone and Benin Republic, Central African Republic and Mauritania, Madagascar and Niger, Ivory Coast and Ethiopia, Mozambique versus Cape Verde and Republic of Congo against Guinea Bissau.

The 2022 AFCON will be hosted by Cameroon.
