A second Turkish humanitarian aid ship docked at Port Sudan in eastern Sudan yesterday, has delivered much-needed relief supplies. The Turkish Ambassador to Khartoum, Fatih Yildiz, was joined by Sudan’s Minister of Information, Graham Abdel Qader, Red Sea State Governor Mustafa Muhammad Nour, and other officials to receive the ship.
The Turkish envoy reaffirmed his country’s continued support for Sudan during the ongoing conflict and natural disasters, noting that the latest shipment includes 18,000 tents, blankets, and essential public health and shelter materials. Ambassador Yildiz expressed gratitude for Sudan’s solidarity with Türkiye during the devastating earthquake in February 2023.
Sudanese Information Minister Graham Abdel Qader expressed deep appreciation for Türkiye’s steadfast assistance, emphasising the strong ties between the two nations. “Turkiye’s support during the current war and recent natural disasters is invaluable to the people of Sudan,” Abdel Qader said.
This is the second aid ship from Türkiye to reach Sudan. The first ship arrived on July 19 with 2,500 tonnes of relief supplies. The delivery comes as Sudan continues to grapple with the combined effects of war and severe flooding. The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023, has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and displaced nearly 10 million people, according to the United Nations.
