Sudan’s Ministry of Health has reported 221 new cholera cases, bringing the total number of infections to over 43,490 since the outbreak began. The death toll from the disease has reached 1,187.
The latest cases were identified in multiple states, including Khartoum, Al Jazirah, Gedaref, Kassala, River Nile, Northern State, White Nile, and Sennar.
Additionally, 15 new dengue fever cases were confirmed, raising the total to 8,008 infections and 16 fatalities.
Cholera, a bacterial infection caused by contaminated water, can result in severe dehydration and death if untreated. Sudan declared it an epidemic on 12 August. Dengue fever, transmitted through mosquito bites, also poses a growing public health threat, with symptoms like high fever, joint pain, and nausea.
Efforts to contain the dual outbreaks remain critical despite ongoing health challenges in the country.
