Sudan Records 401 New Cholera Cases Across Five States

Sudanese health authorities have confirmed 401 new cholera cases in five states, along with six additional deaths, bringing the total death toll to 388 since August. The outbreak has spread across Kassala, El-Gedaref, the Red Sea, Northern State, and Nile River, according to the Ministry of Health.

The overall number of cholera cases across 10 of Sudan’s 18 states has now reached 12,896, with the ongoing epidemic worsening amid the country’s broader humanitarian crisis.

On 12 August, Sudan officially declared cholera an epidemic, further straining a nation already suffering from the conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which erupted in April 2023. The war has claimed more than 20,000 lives and displaced nearly 10 million people, including refugees, according to the United Nations.
