Sudanese officials have closed the Gallabat border crossing with Ethiopia after the Fano militia took control of the Ethiopian town of Metema, as confirmed by Sudanese military sources speaking to the Sudan Tribune.
As a result, all border trade and travel between the two nations have come to a halt.
The sources added that Sudanese authorities permitted Ethiopian federal police and military personnel to enter Sudan on the condition that they surrender their weapons.
In exchange, the Fano militia allowed Sudanese nationals who were stranded at the border to return to their home country.
According to informed sources, the Fano militia has seized control of both the town of Metema and the crossing connecting it to Sudan, aiming to block essential food and fuel supplies from entering Ethiopia via Sudan.
