The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) organisation and its associated businesses’ bank accounts are to be frozen, according to a decree from Sudan‘s Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Sudanese army.
General Burhan also retired four military commanders connected to the group in a slew of orders issued on Sunday.
Brig Gen. Omar Hamdan Ahmed, a close relative of RSF leader Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, is one of the impacted officers. He is now leading a delegation of the paramilitary force to peace negotiations with the Sudanese army in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In addition, Gen Burhan removed Hussain Yahia Jankol as governor of the central bank and replaced him with Borai El Siddiq.
He did not state why Jankol was fired. Meanwhile, Sudan TV, a government-run broadcaster, started broadcasting again via satellite on Sunday, one week after falling dark.
The station’s transmission has been interrupted numerous times since the army and RSF started fighting on April 15. It keeps elevating the army’s allegations against the RSF.
