Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Seeks Strengthened Ties with Turkey

The Sudanese Sovereignty Council has expressed appreciation for Turkey’s regional and international support for Khartoum, as well as its humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.

This acknowledgment came during a meeting in Port Sudan between Sovereignty Council member Shams El-Din Kabbashi and the Turkish Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yildiz, as reported by the council.

Kabbashi, who also serves as deputy army commander, conveyed gratitude for the Turkish government’s support and assistance during the ongoing conflict in Sudan. He emphasized the Sudanese government’s desire to enhance relations and foster continued cooperation between the two nations across various sectors, aiming to benefit the peoples of both countries.

Ambassador Yildiz outlined Turkey’s commitment to Sudan, discussing the current situation and the role Turkey aims to play in providing support and assistance to those affected by the conflict. He highlighted Turkey’s dedication to prioritising Sudan and advancing bilateral relations across all areas.

On 23 September, a Turkish ship arrived in Port Sudan, delivering relief aid for individuals impacted by the war, floods, and heavy rainfall.

The United Nations and various international organisations have called for an end to the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which erupted in April 2023, resulting in approximately 21,000 fatalities and displacing around ten million civilians.
