Suicide Bomb Attack Rocks Somalia, Killing Seven

A suicide bomber detonated himself close to a police academy in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of at least seven individuals, including civilians, according to police.

“The apparent casualty information we have is the death of seven people, including police and civilians, and six people were wounded,” a police statement said.

Officers said the assailant walked into a crowd of people enjoying tea under the shade of a tree before detonating a device at around 3:30 pm.

According to witnesses, a well-known poet from Somalia was thought to be one of the casualties.

The Al-Shabaab terrorist group, which is linked to Al-Qaeda, claimed that they were responsible for the bombing in a release.

Al-Shabaab has conducted numerous assaults in Mogadishu and other areas of the country while the government continues its offensive to eliminate the terrorists.

In August, at least 37 individuals died in an attack by Al-Shabaab on a popular beach in the capital, leading to protests against the group.
