Suicide Bomber Attacks Somali Mosque, Kills Six

No fewer than six people have been killed after suicide bombers attack a mosque in Kismayo, Somali.

According to a regional official, a suicide bomber wearing a heavy vest of explosives targeted the congregation at the Qaadim mosque as people were leaving the mosque after performing Friday prayers.

The official, Abdinasir Gulled, said 20 people were injured in the attack, which may have been aimed at a provincial politician.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack on their Radio Andulus.

Al-Shabaab, which has ties to al-Qaeda, regularly launches attacks on government officials, journalists, prominent businessmen as well as civilians in the volatile nation in the Horn of Africa.

On Wednesday, a suicide bomber killed at least three civilians, including a young boy, at a restaurant in Somalia’s capital.

Seven people were injured in the incident which occurred when the bomber detonated a suicide vest outside the restaurant near a security checkpoint close to the presidential palace in Mogadishu.
