The Super Eagles have dropped ranking points after a string of poor results in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The Eagles dropped eight places in the recent FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

Nigeria are now on 1498.93 points, a decline from their previous 1520.27 points to fall to the 38th position in the world.

Still winless in the qualifiers, Nigeria’s hopes of playing on the big stage remain very doubtful, especially after the controversy surrounding the management of the team.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco are the highest-ranked African team at No. 12, followed by Senegal’s Teranga Lions at 18, Egypt’s Pharaohs at 36, the African champions Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire at 37, and the Super Eagles rounding up Africa’s top five at 38.

According to the FIFA release, Argentina retain their place at the summit, with France and Belgium making up the top three. However, Brazil move one spot up to 4th while England drops to 5th.

These rankings are expected to change further this month, with the European Championships and Copa America underway.
