After more than 14 hours of delay at Al Abraq International Airport, the Nigerian flight carrying the Super Eagles players and officials was finally cleared by the Libyan government to return home.
Sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, also known as OgaNlaMedia, revealed this in a social media post.
He stated: “Following pressure from various sources, the Libyan government has agreed to grant clearance for ValueJet Airline to fly and provide aviation fuel to the airline.
“They initially proposed a pre-clearance to land in Benghazi before heading to Nigeria. This is the same Benghazi that was busy yesterday.
“The NFF has insisted that the clearance from Al-Abraq airport should allow the team to fly directly to Nigeria.”
A player, Bruno Onyemaechi, affirmed this, saying, “I’m done with Libya. Nothing concerns me and you anymore. Thank goodness I’m going back.”
Prior to this, there were allegations that Libyan authorities had refused to grant permission and aviation fuel to the Super Eagles’ chartered flight, ValueJet, to fly the players back to Nigeria.
