Super Eagles Touch Down in Abidjan Ahead of AFCON Tournament

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have landed at the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan, gearing up for the much-anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hosted in Cote d’Ivoire.

The 25-man squad, proudly adorned in the nation’s colors, made the journey from Nigeria to Côte d’Ivoire, receiving a warm welcome from enthusiastic fans eager to celebrate and capture moments with the players.

Before their departure, the team enjoyed a send-forth dinner hosted by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, following their return from Abu Dhabi, where they underwent a week-long pre-tournament training.

The Super Eagles are set to kick off their AFCON campaign with a match against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday. This will be followed by an eagerly awaited clash with hosts Cote D’Ivoire on January 18th, and they will conclude the group stage against Guinea-Bissau on January 22nd.

The 25-man squad, comprising players and officials, was observed in full force, with the exception of strikers Kelechi Iheanacho and Terem Moffi, who are expected to join the team later. Iheanacho, recovering from a muscular injury sustained at Leicester City FC, and Moffi, a late replacement for the injured Victor Boniface, is set to join after participating in a Ligue 1 game against Rennes on Saturday.

The arrival of the Super Eagles in Abidjan heightens the anticipation for a thrilling AFCON tournament, with fans eagerly awaiting the team’s performances in the quest for continental glory.
