Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons lost narrowly 2-1 to Canada in an international friendly match played in Spain yesterday. Desire Oparanozie had given Nigeria a first-half lead with a superb finish before Canada bounced back with two quick goals in the second half.
Janine Beckie and substitute Sophie Schmidt scored early in the second second period finishing off crosses from 18 year old Jayde Riviere. Canada, who are ranked fifth in the world remain unbeaten in 2019 with 4 wins and two draws.
Both teams are preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup which kicks off in June. Canada are in Group E alongside Cameroon, New Zealand and the Netherlands while Nigeria will contend with hosts France, South Korea and Norway in Group A.
