SuperSport United, three-time former champions of South Africa’s Premiership, are still second last in the standings after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by fellow strugglers Cape Town City on Sunday.
The draw keeps SuperSport in 15th place with just 22 points from 22 matches, leaving them in danger of relegation as the team faces a relegation play-off with second division clubs. With only eight matches left, the team has struggled to convert scoring chances, having netted just 12 goals in the league so far this season.

In contrast, Cape Town City climbed one spot to 14th place, now two points ahead of SuperSport. The match stretched their winless streak to 11 games across all competitions, but caretaker coach Diogo Peral was satisfied with the away point, despite the team’s need to start winning soon to avoid relegation.
SuperSport coach Andre Arendse, despite the team’s difficult position, remained optimistic, pointing out that the squad has talent and will manage to avoid the relegation zone if they improve their finishing.
With relegation carrying financial consequences, clubs in the Premiership receive a 2.5 million rand monthly grant, compared to just 750,000 rand for second division clubs, highlighting the stakes for both teams.
