The Supreme Court has released the list of justices confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2023.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier nominated the names to fill the vacancies of the apex court.

Eleven names were released by the court for swearing-in as new court justices next week.

The confirmation followed the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters’ consideration and adoption of a report during a plenary session.

President Tinubu had requested the Senate’s confirmation of nominees recommended by the National Judicial Council to fill positions left vacant due to the deaths and resignations of some justices.

The justices listed for swearing-in

Justice Haruna Tsammani (Northeast)

Justice Moore Adumein (South-South)

Justice Jummai Sankey (North-Central)

Justice Chidiebere Uwa (South-East)

Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme (South-East)

Others are Justice Obande Ogbuinya (South-East)

Justice Stephen Adah (North-Central)

Justice Habeeb Abiru (South-West)

Justice Jamilu Tukur (Northwest)

Justice Abubakar Umar (Northwest)

Justice Mohammed Idris (North-Central)

When sworn in, the apex court will have the full complement of 21 justices, as stipulated in the Constitution.

The swearing-in of the 11 justices will enable the Supreme Court to meet the figure of 21 justices on its bench as required by the Constitution.
