A 46-year-old Georgian man, accused of setting his wife on fire inside a tram in Germany, surrendered to police on Monday, authorities confirmed.
According to police in the eastern city of Gera, the suspect turned himself in at the local police station just before 9:00 am (0800 GMT) and was arrested without resistance.
The man allegedly doused his wife with a flammable liquid and ignited it while they were inside a tram in Gera on Sunday, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

“The victim was sprayed with a flammable substance and set alight by a man,” police initially stated. Later, they confirmed the suspect was believed to be her husband.
The tram driver quickly used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, but the 46-year-old woman had already suffered severe burns. She was airlifted to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Passengers triggered the emergency stop, but the attacker took advantage of the open doors to escape. Police subsequently launched a manhunt on suspicion of attempted murder.
Authorities confirmed on Monday that the investigation remains ongoing and urged witnesses to come forward with any relevant information.
