The Amegu Nkalaha Community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State suffered an attack by suspected herdsmen on Sunday, resulting in the burning of many homes and an undetermined number of fatalities.
Police have sent officers to the scene, according to SP Joshua Ukandu, spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, who confirmed the attack to reporters.
According to Ukandu, the incident was confirmed, but the number of casualties is still being looked into.
“Police are responding to the incident; yes, there was an attack.” According to him, the leadership is still trying to figure out how many people were killed in the incident.

Ifeoma Agwu, the chairperson of the Ishielu Local Government Area, acknowledged the attack as well. However, she added that it is currently difficult to pinpoint the precise number of casualties because the process of recovering bodies and transporting them to the mortuary is still underway.
“The bodies of the victims are currently being taken to the mortuary. I can’t discuss it much right now. We’ll provide additional information later.”
Although the attack’s purpose is still being investigated, some locals speculated that it might have something to do with the recent slaughter of cows owned by local herders.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a community member asserted that Eastern Security Network (ESN) personnel slaughtered the calves in the forest.
According to the source, there has been conflict in the community since the cows were killed, and efforts have been made by those involved to stop reprisals.
