Suspected terrorists reportedly ambushed and killed four Nigerian Army personnel in the Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday, August 10.
The attack occurred in Balle, the headquarters of Gudu LGA, where the assailants opened fire on the soldiers’ moving vehicle.
Four soldiers died on the spot, while seven others were severely injured and are currently receiving treatment.
The attackers also set fire to two military operational vehicles.
The Nigerian Police Force or Army authorities in Sokoto are however, yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
Following the attack, additional security personnel have been deployed to the area.
Terrorism and banditry continue to be major security challenges in northern Nigeria, particularly in the North-West and North-Central states, with groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) worsening the situation.
