The panel of judges said the CNL had failed to provide sufficient evidence and ruled the complaints were “null and void”, validating Evariste Ndayishimiye’s victory with 68.7 percent of the vote.
Evariste Ndayishimiye was declared winner of Burundi’s presidential election with 68.72 percent of the vote, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) said.
The opposition National Council for Liberty (CNL) has cried foul, with a spokesman on Friday calling the polls “a carefully prepared hold-up”.
The opposition party also alleged there had been incidents of proxy voting, people voting multiple times and the voting cards of absent voters being redistributed to ruling party electors.
