Nigerien President, Mohamed Bazoum has declared that he does not want Ministers in his cabinet to practise polygamy.
The Minister said this to a group of women on Wednesday during an event to commemorate Women’s Day in Niger.
He quoted verses in the holy Qur’an to support his claims and said polygamy is bad.
“Those who are going to fight us, they say that it is our religion that said it, it is false. In any case, if we refer to the Koran, it is false. What does Surah An Nissa say?” he said before warning his minister to stick to one woman or leave his cabinet.
“That’s why the other time I said to my ministers, we must set an example, as long as you are in my government, you are prohibited from taking an extra wife. The minister who wants to take an additional wife, he is not forbidden, but he must leave the government”,
Bazoum became Niger’s President in April 2021 and has been a foremost politician in the country for almost three decades.
