Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have urged security forces to take note of recent “threats” issued by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike warned of future political catastrophes in the states of any governor who interfered with PDP issues in Rivers State.
During an event in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike stated, “I hear some governors say they will take over the structure and give it back to someone. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states.”
In response, Emmanuel Agbo, the Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasized that no one is above the law and urged security agencies to pay close attention to Wike’s remarks.
“The Forum calls on national security leaders to take note of Wike’s threats to incite violence in states, as no one is above the law,” Agbo said.
He condemned Wike’s statements, describing them as “unbridled, irresponsible, and completely unacceptable.” Agbo stressed that such threats undermine efforts to build peace, unity, and mutual respect among party leaders and members.
“It is regrettable that these remarks come from someone who once belonged to this respected forum as a former governor,” he added.
The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to solidarity, noting that it has always upheld a “touch one, touch all” philosophy, supporting one another in all circumstances. Agbo pointed out that Wike himself benefited from this tradition during his time as governor.
The Forum also reiterated its stance on PDP affairs in Rivers State, as resolved unanimously at its 2024 meetings in Enugu and Taraba States, stating that this position is not subject to change by any individual, regardless of their status.
“We are fully committed to working with the National Working Committee (NWC) of our party to ensure that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State receives all the privileges he is entitled to as a PDP-elected governor at both the state and national levels,” Agbo said.
He urged all party members, including Wike, to focus on collective goals rather than personal grievances. The Forum also called on the NWC to use both formal and informal channels to find an amicable solution to the ongoing crisis within the Rivers State chapter of the PDP.
