Tanzania Buries Magufuli ‘At Home’

Former Tanzanian President, John Magufuli has been laid to rest on Friday in his village, nine days after his demise from a heart attack.

Magufuli, nicknamed the “Bulldozer” was a COVID-19 sceptic before his death and hardly paid attention to the disease, even as it crept into the country.

He has been interred in Chato, his village, near Lake Victoria.

Regardless of his inactions, Tanzanians trooped out to give their former President their last respect. He was named “our hero” by his successor and former Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Hassan also said her government will stick to some of Magufuli’s approaches and style as he was admired for his hard stance against corruption.

Magufuli was last seen in a public event on the 27th of February, sparking rumours that he was held down by COVID-19. The Tanzanian government was quick to deny the rumour before the announcement of his demise on the 17th of March.
