The Tanzania Cricket team is set to compete in the Women’s T20 Invitational Tournament hosted in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos.
The Main Organising Committee (MOC) issued the announcement, stating that the Tanzania team ranked 19th in the world, will participate in the four-team event.
The team’s appearance at this year’s competition was described by the MOC chairman, Chuma Anosike, as a major achievement.
“Nigeria, the host and defending champion, is ranked 29th in the world, Rwanda is three steps ahead of us at 26, while Sierra Leone is at 39.
“Their inclusion raises the bar for the event, and the potential for an increased number of eyeballs that will watch the matches globally.” Anosike said.
The Nigerian Cricket team, known as the Female Yellow-Greens has been camp for the eight-day event, which will be held at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval in Lagos.
The competition will begin on Sunday, February 25 with the Tanzania women’s team facing the 2022 Champions Rwanda at 10 a.m., while hosts Nigeria will battle her neighbour and West African opponent, Sierra Leone at 2.15 p.m.
