The Tanzanian government has received the recommendations for putting President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s face in the Tanzanian currency as a way of immortalising her as the country’s first female President.
The disclosure was made by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa at the Parliament in Dodoma on Thursday, during the Question and Answers session. Majaliwa said the proposal will be debated and once a decision is made, it will be officially communicated.
Prime Minister Majaliwa responded to a question raised by Special Seat MP Ng’wasi Kamani regarding the possibility of featuring President Samia’s image on the currency.
The PM explained that the decision to include leaders’ pictures on currency involves collaboration between leaders and the Central Bank. He mentioned that the matter has been raised in Parliament and will be reviewed by the house.
“The decision of placing the photos of various leaders on the currency was made with the aim of remembering the contributions of those leaders in the country…the current photo are those of the late Father of the Nation Julius Kambarage Nyerere and the first President of Zanzibar as their pictures were used as part of their records,” he stated.
