Tanzania: US Embassy Shuts Down Due To Internet Outage

The United States Embassy in Tanzania will shut down for two days due to ongoing network disruptions in the country. In an official statement, the embassy announced its closure on May 14 and 15, attributing the decision to network issues stemming from a severed submarine cable impacting Kenya, Tanzania, and regions across East and Southern Africa.

“Due to nationwide network degradation, the embassy will be closed to the public on May 14th and 15th. Consular appointments scheduled for these days will be cancelled and rescheduled. However, the consular section will remain open for visa pickups and emergency cases involving American citizens,” stated the embassy.

Kenya, alongside several other African nations, grapples with internet disruptions stemming from a severed submarine cable. This incident has led to decreased internet speeds, prompting telecom companies like Safaricom to caution their customers regarding the ongoing disruption.
