The central bank of Tanzania has a new governor Emmanuel Tutuba, according to a statement from President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s office late on Saturday.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communications, President Hassan has nominated Tutuba to succeed Florens Luoga, whose term as governor of the Bank of Tanzania has come to an end.

Tutuba served as the ministry of finance and planning’s permanent secretary before being appointed. The president of state appointed Natu El-Maamry Mwamba to replace Tutuba as the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Mwamba held the positions of chairperson of the Kilimanjaro Airport Development Company, which is in charge of managing the Kilimanjaro International Airport, and a lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam prior to her nomination.

This is coming after President Samia Suluhu Hassan cancelled Prof. Kennedy Gastorn’s appointment as Tanzania‘s Envoy to the UN due to an unnamed corruption incident.

The President promoted Moses Kusiluka from permanent secretary in the President’s Office to Chief Secretary in his stead, and chose Chief Secretary Hussein Katanga, her closest assistant at State House, to take over as envoy to the UN in New York and ambassador in Washington, DC.

Diwani Athumani, the Director General of the Tanzania Intelligence and Security Service (TISS), has been promoted to take Kusiluka’s place.
