Today marks the second anniversary of Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s presidency. She succeeded the late President John Magufuli, who passed away on March 17, 2021, due to a heart-related illness.

Hassan’s two-year term has made significant progress in the areas of policies, the economy, and diplomacy. The country’s first female president has been praised by politicians, analysts, and citizens for advancing democracy and expanding the country’s diplomatic ties.

President Hassan lifted a ban on political rallies and accelerated the implementation of megaprojects, including the standard-gauge railway and the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project.

She has also focused on agriculture to alleviate poverty and addressed pension challenges for retirees. Despite these achievements, more needs to be done, such as enacting laws to protect political freedom and an independent electoral commission.
