Once again, American Singer, Taylor Swift has set a record. This time, the singer of “Fortnight” became the most decorated BBMA winner with 49 career prizes, making history at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) Thursday night.
In the following categories, she took home ten awards: Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Streaming Songs Artist, and Top Billboard 200.
Drake and Swift were deadlocked with 39 victories until Thursday’s performance. Drake won three Billboard Awards, increasing his total to 42 victories.
Swift thanked Billboard and her fans for “caring about our albums and coming to see us in concert” in a pre-recorded address.
“All of the things that have occurred with the Eras Tour and ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ I simply must express my gratitude.” That you all have loved what I’ve created and that you are so interested in my music means the world to me,” she continued.
Swift concluded her address by stating that “this is the nicest early birthday present” she could have gotten. Swift’s 35th birthday is on Friday. “It’s just what I wanted,” she continued.
Billboard’s charts have been controlled by the Grammy winner, particularly in recent years.
She shattered her record earlier this year when she took the top 14 slots on the Hot 100 following the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” and she became the first artist to occupy the entire Billboard Hot 100 top 10 in 2022 with songs from “Midnights,” which was released the same year.
The music charting site claims that she became the only living artist to have five albums simultaneously rank in the top 10 in 2023 when “TTPD” spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart, longer than any of her previous albums.
The Billboard Music Awards were hosted by comedian and actor Michelle Buteau and broadcast on FOX. Among the performers were Shaboozey, Linkin Park, Coldplay, and numerous others.
