Teachers in England and Wales are planning countrywide strike action over wages, the first since 2016. According to the National Education Union, more than 100,000 people, including university workers, public servants, train and bus drivers, may strike on Wednesday.

The education secretary said the proposed teachers’ strike has created great anxiety for parents. Some schools may not close until the morning, depending on how many employees join the strike.

According to the Trades Union Congress, some 500,000 employees are expected to participate in walkouts across a variety of industries, making it the largest strike in more than a decade.

Gillian Keegan, the education secretary, said the strike will have a major impact on children’s education. However, Schools Minister Nick Gibb later stated that the majority of schools will remain open in some way.

Teachers are also on strike in two districts of Scotland, Clackmannanshire and Aberdeen, as part of a rolling strike.
