Telecel Group, located in the United Kingdom, has finalised the acquisition of Mattel, a Mauritanian cellco, from Tunisie Telecom (TT) and its local partners.

Telecel will be able to portray itself as a disruptor of the existing service paradigm in Africa as a result of the acquisition.

Mattel, the smallest of Mauritania’s three mobile network operators (MNOs), was founded in 2000 and is now controlled by TT (51%), BSA Telecommunication (39%), and Comatel (10%).

The organisation has always placed a premium on the quality of its network, the professionalism of its employees, the management team’s leadership, and its proximity to clients.

Mattel is a significant actor in the country’s ICT sector and digital transformation. Mattel, as a result, plays a critical role in the development of broadband in Mauritania, with its 4G and fibre optic networks in the country’s major cities.

It has a nearly 33 percent market share and has continuously improved its network throughout the course of its 21-year history, owing to the latest generation of technical equipment and the expertise of its engineers.

With a network of more than 120 agencies dispersed across the country, the platform provides services throughout the country.

Telecel is a mobile phone company that has been operating in Africa since 1986. On the continent, the Group is expanding rapidly.

Since 2018, it has conducted four transactions. Approximately the next three years, the business aims to invest over US$700 million, mostly in mobile operator acquisitions, fibre optic infrastructure construction, and infrastructure.

Telecel Global Services, Telecel Play, and the Africa Startup Initiative Program have all become key actors in Africa’s digital economy as a result of their efforts.

“After a competitive process, we are pleased to announce that Telecel Group has been selected for the sale transaction of Mattel’s shares.

“We are satisfied with the interactions with the Telecel group and remain confident for the rest of the process,” says Mattel Shareholders.

Telecel Group now operates in four verticals, all of which are related to the telecom business; Telecel Mobile owns and runs a number of mobile operators across Africa and Europe.
