Tems has unveiled the trailer for her upcoming album, “Born in the Wild,” set to release in May 2024. The Afrobeats sensation, fresh from her performance at Coachella, premiered the one-minute video on Monday, April 15, 2024.
The teaser showcases young children frolicking in a park, indicating an exploration of Tems’ journey from childhood to womanhood.
The nostalgic video depicts young Tems growing up in Lagos suburbs, showcasing moments in her modest home with her mother in the kitchen. It also offers a glimpse of a track titled “Born in the Wild,” likely to be a centrepiece of the album.
During her Sunday performance of “Essence” alongside Justin Bieber and Wizkid, she treated the audience to an unreleased track from “Born in the Wild,” sampling the beloved 1999 song “Love Me Jeje” by Seyi Sodimu from the “Born In Africa” album—a nostalgic favourite among ’90s-born Nigerians.
This teaser and her recent performance emphasise that the’ “Born in the Wild” album will delve into her upbringing and the cultural influences that have shaped her. Notably, the album’s title bears a striking resemblance to “Born in Africa,” the title of Seyi Sodimu’s album featuring “Love Me Jeje.”
