The 54th NAACP Image awards went down this week and two popular Nigerian musician bagged awards. The awards known to celebrate black excellence in art and entertainment happened virtually this year.
International sensation, Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems, bagged her 2nd ever NAACP award for the Wakanda theme song ‘No Woman No Cry’. The Bob Marley song cover won the Outstanding International Song category, earning Tems her 2nd nod after her assisted megabit song ‘Essence’ won last year.
It’s Wizkid’s 5th NAACP Award, his contribution on Chris browns ‘Call Me Everyday’ won him the award for best contemporary collaboration. This new win follows the success of his 2020 hit ‘Essence’ and hit collaboration with Beyoncé on ‘Brown Skin Girl’ which won him the best music video award in 2021 & 2022.
Other big winners at the recently held NAACP Awards include, Beyoncé, who snatched Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Soul/R&B Song for ‘Cuff it’ and Outstanding Album of the year for Dance pop album, ‘Renaissance’.
