Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the #EndBadGovernance protesters that his government has acknowledged their grievances and pledged to address them soon.
The President made this commitment in a national broadcast to Nigerians on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Tinubu’s speech was a response to the ongoing nationwide demonstration against hunger and hardship, which has now reached its fourth day.

Below are ten things to take away from President Tinubu’s speech.

Ten Things to Take Away from Tinubu's Speech
    1. The President expresses deep sorrow over the casualties and destruction, emphasising the setback caused by the damage to public facilities and looting. He extends condolences to the families of those who have died and calls for an end to further violence and destruction.
    2. As President, he pledges to uphold public order and prevent political agendas from destabilising the nation.
    3. He urged protesters to suspend their demonstrations and embrace dialogue to address national concerns collectively.
    4. He warned those who sabotaged the protest by using it to promote disunity.
    5. He emphasised the importance of respecting constitutional rights and responsible law enforcement for democratic progress. The President envisions a fair and prosperous Nigeria committed to transparency and accountability in governance.
    6. He said recent economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and changes to the foreign exchange system, aim to address long-term economic issues.
    7. He mentioned that significant economic strides have been made, including increased revenues, reduced debt service, and significant infrastructure projects, focusing on creating jobs and boosting economic growth.
    8. He mentioned the National Minimum Wage, which has been signed into law, ensures that the lowest-earning workers will now receive a minimum of N70,000 per month.
    9. He said his administration is diligently working to enhance and expand our national infrastructure while creating more opportunities for the youth.
    10. Addressing Nigerians, particularly the youth, the President stated that he had heard their concerns. He expressed his understanding of the pain and frustration fueling the protests and assured them that his government was committed to listening to and addressing the citizens’ concerns.
