Three University of Nairobi students in first, third and sixth year have died on Saturday while they were on a boat ride.
The Bunyala Sub-county police have launched a search for bodies of the three students who drowned at the Mulokoba Waterfront in Budalangi, Busia.
Bunyala Sub-county police commander Isaiah Mose confirmed that the deceased were members of a team of seven students on a leisure boat ride.
While the bodies of the three are yet to be retrieved, the rest were rescued after the evening incident.
Mose said search operations will continue today (Sunday), after it was suspended last night due to the darkness.
This is coming barely a week after another tragic boat mishap involved two of their kin at Sika beach in Mageta Island.
The casualties Dedan Omondi Damai, 22, and Wycliffe Onyango Damai, 21 who were of the same parents went fishing at the beach before death struck.
Beach chairman Julius Odemba confirmed that their boats capsized as a result of strong waves in the lake a few minutes after casting their nets and off for the shore.
Another similar incident happened at the popular Pirates Beach in Mombasa on Christmas Day when two people drowned after their boat capsized.
