Reports indicate that three suspects were on Thursday arrested and a vandalised Kenya Power equipment estimated to be worth millions of shillings recovered.

Two of the suspects responsible for vandalising the power equipment, Johana Thuku and Stephen Githitu, after a Directorate of Criminal Investigations-led sting operation was conducted in Juja, Kiambu County.

It was gathered that security operatives arrested the suspects after a raid was done at a scrap metal yard in Juja’s Matangi area.

“A further search in nearby homesteads led to the recovery of more vandalised apparatus, where a container full of steel bracings obtained from critical electricity transmission towers were recovered,” the DCI said in a statement.

The two were eventually charged with damage and handling stolen infrastructure equipment in court.

Patrick King’ori, the third suspect, was apprehended on Thursday evening as he sought to elude the DCI dragnet; a manhunt is still underway for further persons suspected of being involved in the vandalism ring.

The operation comes just a month after President Uhuru Kenyatta outlawed scrap metal trading due to an increase in vandalism targeting Kenya Power’s major infrastructure assets.
