Three siblings, ages 8, 11 and 12, were killed in the collapse of a building in Beni Suef, an Egyptian city south of Cairo. Nearly 10 others were injured.
Nine people, including three children, were rescued from the rubble by rescue teams and ambulances.
The bodies of the three victims were taken to the mortuary at Ihnasiya Central Hospital.
Although there are no immediate details about what caused the collapse, such incidents are common in Egypt, where poor construction is common in shantytowns, poor city neighbourhoods, and rural areas.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the collapse.
Building permits are frequently violated in big cities like Cairo and Alexandria, where real estate is very expensive. Extra floors are frequently added without proper permits.
Egypt’s government has launched a campaign against building violations after recent collapses of buildings. A number of arrests have been made so far, and some buildings have been demolished.
In September, three people died after a four-story building collapsed in the city of Shoubra el-Khaima. In March, a nine-story apartment building collapsed in Cairo, killing at least 16 people.
