Thugs Invade PDP North-West Congress in Kaduna

The Congress organized by the North-West Zonal Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ended abruptly over the weekend after an organised disruption by thugs.

Members of the party arrived the International Trade Fair Complex in the state capital for the exercise attended by some PDP chieftains.

The Governor Of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, and a former National Caretaker Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Markarfi were among those present. Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, was absent at the congress.

The PDP Zonal Congress was held to elect new leaders who would pilot the affairs of the party in the zone in the next four years.

The congress was disrupted by thugs midway into the voting process by delegates from the seven states of the north-west region to elect their zonal chairman and other executive members.

Ballot papers and other voting materials were destroyed in the violence forcing party chieftains to hurriedly depart the venue for fear of being nicked in the attack.

Chairman of the Media Sub-Committee of the congress, Abdulrahman Usman, noted that the attack was led by delegates from Kano State over who would emerge as the PDP chairman in the zone.

Soon as the exercise was disrupted, the congress was put on hold to avoid an escalation.

Usman, noted that leaders of the party would meet again to address all pending issues before fixing a new date for the zonal congress.
