A Mobile Police officer, Inspector Richard Felix from the 43 PMF of the Lagos State Police Command, has been murdered on New Year’s Day in Adamawa State , Northeast Nigeria.
The incident occurred when a group of men attacked the 46-year-old officer, who was not in uniform, at the Sangamu Hotel in Yola South Local Government Area around 12:10 a.m. This resulted in severe injuries to his chest. Promptly, the police in Jambutu rushed to the scene and discovered the victim. Despite being swiftly taken to the Specialist Hospital in Yola, Inspector Felix was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
A source shared with the Press, “We learned that some thugs attacked the policeman. When police officers in Jambutu got to the scene, they rushed him to the Specialist Hospital in Yola, but the doctor said he was brought in dead already.”
The body of Inspector Felix has been deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy. Currently, one individual has been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrested suspect, who sustained injuries during the attack, is receiving medical attention in the hospital.
Suleiman Nguroje, the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating, “The Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State CID for us to know who were the attackers, who were behind it and what prompted it. As soon as that is done, we will make sure the law takes its course.”
Expressing condemnation for the incident, Nguroje emphasised the importance of upholding the lives of policemen, asserting that the law must take its course. When questioned about why the Lagos cop was in Adamawa State, Nguroje explained that investigations were underway to determine the purpose of Inspector Felix’s presence in the state. The command has officially taken over the investigation and is awaiting communication from Lagos for more details.
