Tiger Woods Withdraws Midway through Genesis Invitational's 2nd Round Due to Illness

Renowned golfer Tiger Woods withdrew from the Genesis Invitational midway through the second round due to illness, as confirmed by the US PGA Tour on Friday.

Tiger Woods, the host of the tournament held at The Riviera Country Club, commenced his round but was subsequently observed departing the course in a golf cart after teeing off on the seventh hole.

This occurrence marks Tiger Woods’ return to the US PGA Tour since his withdrawal from the third round of the Masters last April. Following that, he underwent ankle surgery to alleviate persistent discomfort in his right foot stemming from injuries sustained in a car accident in 2021.

While Tiger Woods mentioned on Thursday that back spasms played a role in an unexpected misfire at the 18th hole of his first round, where he finished one-over par, there were no indications that his numerous injuries, which he contends with regularly, contributed to his withdrawal on Friday.

Tiger Woods was facing an uphill battle to qualify for the next round of the prestigious event. Despite starting his Friday round with a birdie on the par-five first hole, he encountered setbacks with bogeys on the third and fifth holes. His decision to retire came after hitting the fairway on the seventh hole.
