Tigray Forces Claim War is Not Over Despite Ethiopia’s ‘Final Offensive’

Tigrayan forces are refusing to give up despite Ethiopia’s supposed final offensive.

On Sunday, Tigrayan forces claimed that an Ethiopian plane was shot down by their officers, and that a town has been taken over.

This came barely 24 hours after Prime Minister, Mister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia’a battle with Tigray is over after the capture of Mekelle.

It is unclear if the Federal Police have arrested any Tigrayan official yet, as a lack of access to phone and internet services means information dissemination has been very lean.

Police have since issued arrest warrants for 17 military officers for treason and embezzlement of public properties, state-affiliated Fana TV reported.

The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) is arguably Ethiopia’s most powerful group, having led the country for 27 years before the emergence of Mister Ahmed as Prime Minister.

The group has accused Ahmed of ethnic bias, saying his government is illegal after he postponed elections over COVID-19 fears.

Mister Ahmed has refused international mediation and has insisted that civilians were not hurt in the Ethiopian forces’ final onslaught on Tigray.
