President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that the ongoing economic reforms in Nigeria will have a significant positive impact on the economic prospects of Africa.
Speaking at a state dinner hosted by the French Government at Palais des Elysée in Paris, President Tinubu noted that the reforms aim to stimulate Nigeria’s growth and, by extension, contribute to Africa’s development.
The Nigerian leader praised the strong relationship between Nigeria and France, specifically highlighting the commitment of French President Emmanuel Macron to Africa. Tinubu expressed his belief that Macron’s interest in the continent would result in stronger bilateral ties, benefiting both nations and Africa as a whole.
President Tinubu called on citizens of both nations to uphold the friendly ties between the countries.
During the dinner, President Macron acknowledged Nigeria’s key leadership role in Africa, referring to the country as a “big brother” to the continent. He lauded Nigerians for their resilience and intellect, citing prominent figures such as Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka and late musician Femi Kuti as global examples of Nigerian talent.
Macron also commended President Tinubu for transforming the economy of Lagos and now working to modernize Nigeria’s entire economy.
Macron highlighted the longstanding presence of French investors in Nigeria, particularly in sectors such as oil, gas, construction, and food security. He praised Nigeria’s vibrant and innovative youth, pointing out the country’s potential to drive growth and change across the continent.
In his speech, President Tinubu expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening the relationship between Nigeria and France. He also acknowledged the critical role of Nigeria’s economic reforms in shaping Africa’s future prosperity.
