Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2023 general election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday afternoon, arrived Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to deliberate with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The meeting is connected to Tinubu’s presidential bid and the need for the Elder statesman’s endorsement ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.
Tinubu arrived the Penthouse residence of the former president located within the precinct of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Òkè-Mosan, Abeokuta about 1pm.
He was accompanied by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, pioneer APC interim national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, and the pioneer chairman of EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu.
Tinubu was welcomed with fanfare by his excited supporters and party members. He was received by State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and two former governors of the State, Chief ‘Segun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel, alongside other State government functionaries.
Obasanjo and Tinubu were known to be political rivals, which dated back to their days as President and Lagos State Governor respectively.
In 2013 however, Tinubu threw the political rivalry behind him when he appealed to Obasanjo to be the APC’s navigator to the 2015 presidential election.
“You have come out of tribulation and held the highest position in this country. We are here because of your courage and salient points. Nobody can say he has more information than you,” Tinubu told Obasanjo in Abeokuta when he led APC bigwigs to meet the former President.
The two-time former governor of Lagos State later went into a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo and is also expected to address APC supporters and party members later at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta.
