The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said President Tinubu showed outstanding leadership by approving the implementation of the FCT’s complete autonomy.

Speaking at a press briefing to mark his one year in office in Abuja, he said the FCT was previously a place that limited and stagnated the growth of its workforce, but it took the president’s bold leadership to do what previous administrations had shied away from by making the FCT administration autonomous.

“Before now, we used to have a single permanent secretary who was usually posted from the Federal Civil Service Commission, but now we have 13 permanent secretaries who are core ministry staff.”

He also said the President fostered the inclusion of women in the ministry by establishing a separate secretariat for women and another for youths.

Wike stressed that despite the challenges he faced upon arriving at the ministry and the broken-down city he met, he is satisfied with his job, adding that people are happy with him.

“At the time we came, FCT was virtually not working; sanitation was poor, insecurity was rife, and infrastructure was dilapidated, but now we have made tremendous progress.” He said
