In the 2025 budget plan, the Nigerian government has set aside a total of N6,364,181,224 billion for the refurbishment and repair of President Bola Tinubu’s, Vice President Kashim Shettima’s, and some of their aides’ living quarters.
According to an analysis of the proposed budget in the 2025 Appropriation Bill that was presented to the National Assembly, N5.49 billion would be needed annually for the Presidential Villa’s maintenance.
The projected budget calls for N765 million to renovate the vice president’s quarters and guest home.
The State House’s president’s quarters will be renovated for N6.39 million, while the auditorium, gymnasium, security quarters, and presidential aides’ quarters will all be renovated for N49 million.
Furthermore, it will cost N51 million to renovate the Prescott barracks at the Maple State House officers’ mess facility and signal office in Asokoro, Abuja.
Subsequent budget analysis showed that N127 million was set aside for the purchase of SUVs, while N87 million is anticipated for honoraria and sitting allowances for Tinubu and his vice.
Additionally, N1.09 billion would be used to replace the SUVs at the State House, while N3.66 billion was allocated for the procurement of operating cars.
N14.72 million is set out in the State House Lagos Liaison Office’s budget for regular upkeep of the State House Lagos amenities, including the Vice President guest homes in Ikoyi and Dodan Barracks.
To finish the renovations and furnishing of the State House annexe (Dodan Barracks), Lagos, an additional N140.10 million was set aside.
In the meantime, the Federal Government intends to invest N1.83 billion to turn the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s forfeited assets into State House quarters.
The intention to convert EFCC-foreclosed homes was announced in the same month that the commission revealed the recovery of a 150,500-square-meter estate in Abuja’s Lokogoma District that included 753 duplexes and other apartment units.
Since its founding in 2003, the commission has referred to this as its “single largest asset recovery.”
On Monday, December 2, 2024, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie ruled that the estate, which is located on Plot 109 Cadastral Zone C09 of the district, was forfeited.
