Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu will head to Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 to attend the inauguration ceremony of Senegal’s President-elect, Bassirou Faye, following an invitation from the Senegalese government.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, issued a statement on Monday, titled “President Tinubu to Attend Inauguration of Senegal’s President-elect Bassirou Faye.”

The visit marks Tinubu’s first since he became Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government.

Ngelale stated that the president “will join other regional leaders to witness the inauguration at Diamniadio Exhibition Centre on Tuesday.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and other senior government officials will accompany the president on the official trip to Senegal, and will return at the end of the ceremony.

Senegal’s president-elect, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, emerged victorious in the March 24 presidential election with 54.3 percent of the vote, just 10 days after his release from prison.

The 44-year-old Faye will take the oath of office on Tuesday, April 2, becoming Senegal’s fifth and youngest president since gaining independence from France in 1960.
