The Nigerian presidency has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to fairness, competence, and national unity in his approach to federal appointments. According to the presidency, the President’s selections have consistently reflected a commitment to inclusive governance and equitable representation across the country.

In a statement shared via his official Twitter account, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Mr Sunday Dare, addressed recent discussions surrounding the regional distribution of appointments. He clarified that, so far, President Tinubu has appointed 71 individuals from the North and 63 from the South to major federal roles, signalling a balanced and deliberate effort to reflect Nigeria’s diversity.

Mr Dare noted that within the southern bloc, 26 appointments have come from the South-West, 21 from the South-South, and 16 from the South-East. He acknowledged that while the North currently has a slight edge in numbers, the overall spread still demonstrates fairness and a broader vision for inclusive governance.

Referencing President Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State, Mr Dare pointed to his record of appointing people from various ethnic backgrounds, further demonstrating his detribalised leadership style. He cautioned against viewing appointments through a narrow or tribal lens, urging critics to consider the wider context and the ongoing nature of federal appointments.

“People tend to isolate new appointments so far made by the President and examine them with a tribal lens,” Dare said. “But it is too early to conclude that appointments are lopsided. Tinubu has barely completed two years in office, and there are still plenty more appointments coming.”

“As President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the same man who is not blinded by the cloak of tribe or religion,” he added.

He encouraged a more balanced assessment of the administration’s efforts, stressing that President Tinubu is gradually reinforcing the principles of federal character and promoting unity across Nigeria.
