Nigerians are requesting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to set an example of sacrificial leadership after his call for sacrificial efforts to achieve Nigeria’s aspirations set by its founding fathers.
They also demanded that top officials, including ministers, advisors, and governors, also demonstrate sacrifice, starting from leadership downwards.
Tinubu’s remarks, made during Eid prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos, sparked widespread reactions from citizens, civil society groups, and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Critics have cited government failures in fulfilling promises following economic challenges like fuel subsidy removal and high inflation rates.
They have questioned the fairness of demanding more sacrifices from already struggling Nigerians.
News Central reports that President Tinubu called on Nigerians to sacrifice for Nigeria’s prosperity during his address to journalists after attending the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks, Lagos on Sunday.
“We have been told by the Chief Imam how we can follow the path of sacrifice.
“The sacrifice required of a good citizen. Citizenship comes with responsibilities. As citizens, what do we need to do to be committed members of our society?
“Yes, that is sacrifice; loving your country. Loving your neighbours. Sharing what you have with each other. And to always be thankful to Almighty God,” he said.
