Nigerian singer and songwriter turned actress, Tiwatope Savage, better known as Tiwa Savage has released the official trailer for her debut film “Water and Garri”.
Directed by Meji Alabi and produced by Unbound Studio and JM Films, the film will premiere on Prime Video on Friday, May 10, 2024.
The film marks Tiwa’s first project in the Nigerian movie industry. It was shot in Cape Coast and Ghana.
She stars as Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer returning to her hometown after years abroad in the United States due to a family loss. However, her homecoming reveals a community engulfed in rising violence and tension.
Other actors featured include Jemima Osunde, Mike Afolarin, and Andrew Bunting.
Tiwa is also the executive producer, composer, and performer of the film’s original soundtrack.
Interestingly, in 2021, the singer released a five-track EP, titled Water & Garri; the same title for her first movie project.
“It’s a story about love and female empowerment,” she said of the film.
