Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has reclaimed her dominance on the track, securing her third consecutive title in the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the prestigious Diamond League Prefontaine Classic held at Hayward Field. This remarkable victory marks her triumphant return after a challenging period marred by doping allegations and suspension.

Amusan showcased her formidable talent as she burst out of the blocks with tremendous speed, maintaining her lead throughout the race. She crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 12.33 seconds, leaving her competitors in her wake.

The hard-charging Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico finished a close second, clocking in at 12.38 seconds, while American Keni Harrison claimed the third spot with a time of 12.44 seconds. The reigning World champion, Danielle Williams of Jamaica, secured the fourth position, completing the race in 12.47 seconds.

This impressive victory adds to Tobi Amusan’s growing list of achievements in the Diamond League. In 2021, she made history by clinching her first Diamond League Trophy, posting a time of 12.42 seconds. She followed this up with another triumph in Zurich last year, where she clocked an impressive 12.29 seconds.

However, this latest achievement is particularly remarkable considering the challenges she faced earlier in the year. Amusan found herself embroiled in doping allegations, leading to her suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). The AIU cited her failure to undergo three mandatory tests within a 12-month period. Fortunately, just three days before the 2023 World Athletics Championships, she was cleared of any violations, allowing her to compete.

Despite being unable to defend her title at the World Championships in Budapest, where she finished sixth in the final at the National Athletics Centre in Hungary, Tobi Amusan remained undeterred and has now secured a third consecutive Diamond League title to further cement her place as one of the world’s greatest.
